The 20th ITPA Topical Group Meeting on Diagnostics will be held from 23 – 26 May at ‘De Baak Seaside’ in the village of Noordwijk in The Netherlands. Noordwijk is located at the Dutch coast and the meeting place is next to the beach. Noordwijk (http://www.noordwijk.nl/docs/internet/_portaal/index-uk.html) is a small seaside resort and has a collection of nice and affordable restaurants at walking distance from the meeting place.
We bargained a prize of 720 Euro for the stay from 23 – 26 May, including 4 lunches, 3 times accommodation (Monday - Wednesday night) and breakfast. Since we do assume that many people would like to arrive already on Sunday, we have asked ’De Baak’ whether they can already open on Sunday (normally they are closed during weekends, as they are fully focussed on management trainings for Dutch companies). The extra night from Sunday to Monday costs 57.50 Euro, incl. breakfast on Monday. The rate for this extra night is much lower than their normal prize, because usually there is no competition for rooms in the weekend. ‘De Baak’ is not open on Saturdays. We received some questions from participants whether it is possible to have accommodation in a different, cheaper hotel. Although the answer is yes, we should give a warning here that 'De Baak' is then charging 355,50 Euro to those participants that don't make use of their accommodation for the four days of the meeting. Since there are so many restaurants around, we have explicitly not included dinner in the package. Nevertheless, for those people who would like to have dinner at some nights in the meeting place, please indicate that on the hotel registration form. Cost per dinner is 20 Euro. The cook works with fresh ingredients and would like to know beforehand for how many people he has to cater. I have enclosed a registration form for hotel accommodation and a form on which you can inform us that you would like to participate (and also inform us about some special data that we need in case we have to issue an invitation letter for visa application). Please fill out both forms and return them to Mrs. Marja van Veenendaal (veenendaal@rijnhuizen.nl). The deadline for hotel reservation is 15 April. We will forward the hotel registration form to ‘De Baak’ and they will further communicate with you on all details with regard to the hotel and finances. FOM-Rijnhuizen wants to offer a welcome reception. Most likely this will be on Tuesday night, since Monday night is not possible because of practical reasons. After the meeting is finished, we can offer participants to visit the FOM-Institute for Plasma Physics Rijnhuizen and see the MAGNUM-PSI and pilot-PSI divertor simulators. MAGNUM-PSI will have ITER relevant parameters and fluxes (>10 MW/m2 cw and >1 GW/m2 in 0.5 ms pulses). At www.rijnhuizen.nl you can find info about the institute. The bus ride from Noordwijk to Rijnhuizen takes approximately 1.5 hour. Therefore people that would like to make use of this and leave the next day for the airport are advised to take a hotel in the vicinity of Utrecht for the last night. Please indicate on the form whether you are interested in a visit to FOM. Noordwijk is located at a distance of 32 km from Amsterdam International Airport (see map). Noordwijk can be either reached by train and subsequently bus or by taxi. Here you find a description how to reach De Baak. I do hope to see many of you in Noordwijk in May. Tony Donné
