The engineering departments of the FOM Institute DIFFER
The engineering consists of two groups.
Electronics & ICT (E&I)
The E&I group designs and develops electronic devices for experimental setups using analog, digital, high-frequency and high-voltage techniques. Additionally, the E&I group is responsible for the general computer and communication infrastructure, and the development of data acquisition and control systems for experiment setups.
Mechanical techniques
The Mechanical Techniques group is responsible for the design and manufacturing of mechanical parts for scientific equipment. CatiaV5 is used for design and simulation. The workshop is equipped with both conventional and CNC machines, and has a brazing facility.
Internships
This section is about internships in the engineerings departments; for general information, see the (Dutch language) page on intern positions.
The engineering departments offer students the opportunity of doing an internship within an academic research environment. Students from Dutch technical schools are welcome to participate in our research, with their stay lasting anywhere between a few weeks and a full year.
Interns are supervised by one of the department's researchers of technicians. The exact topic and details of the engineering assignment are often determined in mutual consideration, to get a good match between the student and engineering.
