FOM work group leader Erik Verlinde wins 2011 Spinoza award

Theoretical physicist prof.dr. Erik Verlinde has received one of the three NWO Spinoza Awards. He is one of three laureates of this highest Dutch award for science, each of whom receives 2.5 million euros to spend on research topics of their own choosing. Verlinde (1962) is a FOM group leader and professor of theoretical physics at the University of Amsterdam. He investigates the building blocks of the universe in his research into string theory, a theory combining gravity and quantum mechanics in one overarching framework. The Spinoza Award referees described Verline as a creative and ambitious researcher.
