Particle Transport for Nuclear Reactor Modeling and for Proton Radiotherapy

In this talk I will give an overview of ongoing efforts at Delft University in the area of particle transport methods for both neutron transport as occurring in reactor physics systems as well as for proton transport that is relevant for proton radiotherapy.

The recent progress of plasma-detachment research as well as plasma-material interaction studies in Nagoya Univ. are outlined in this seminar. Research on plasma detachment, which is thought to be one of the most promising methods to reduce heat load on divertor plate, is currently underway in the linear diverter plasma simulator, NAGDIS-II.

Modelling of plasma-wall interaction and impurity transport in fusion devices

Main processes of plasma-wall interaction and impurity transport in fusion devices and their impact on the availability of the devices are discussed. According modelling tools, in particular the three-dimensional Monte-Carlo code ERO, are introduced.

Energy within the Built Environment: the human in the loop process control optimization

Buildings use 40% of all our energy. Most of this energy (nearly 70% for non-residential) is used for building systems with the goal of providing comfort for the building occupants. There exists a mismatch between simulation defined energy use ranges, and recent findings suggest that the human and its behaviour should be included.
