Seminars

Seminars at DIFFER cover a wide range of topics and are held on Thursdays at 11.15 AM in the seminar room of the institute (unless otherwise stated). Seminars are open to everybody. If you are interested in visiting a DIFFER seminar or want to subscribe to our mailing list, please follow the instructions for external visitors.

Strong coupling is achieved when the coherent energy exchange between a confined electromagnetic field mode (e.g., a cavity mode or a surface plasmon) and material excitations becomes faster than the decay and decoherence of either constituent. This creates a paradigmatic hybrid quantum system with eigenstates that have mixed light-matter character (polaritons).

The largest telescopes in the world provide spectacular images of a variety of astronomical phenomena. The sensitivity and resolution of these observations can only be achieved by means of very sophisticated scientific instruments behind these telescopes. Such instruments cannot be purchased "off the shelf".

Ionic conducting membranes or solid electrolytes have the ability to selectively transport ions (e.g. O2-, OH-, H+, Na+) over a wide temperature range. The main application of these materials concerns the fields of fuel cell and electrochemical sensors.
