NWO-I Technical Workshop: Control Technology

This meeting will be postponed due to the new Covid restrictions - a new date will be announced soon. You can still register.

We are happy to announce the first of the NWO-I Technical Workshops. This workshop will be on Control Technology (Regeltechniek). The workshop is at DIFFER, it is open to all NWO employees.

The nine NWO institutes are active in scientific fields that at first sight appear quite different but in fact show substantial overlap, thereby offering interesting and sometimes unexpected opportunities for collaboration. This notion applies even more strongly to the technical expertise that the NWO institutes hold. Concepts in position controlling and sensitive detection that are used in high-energy physics and astronomy, can also be extremely useful in marine research and nanofabrication. There are many more examples.

To explore the overlap in technical expertise and interest NWO-I Technical Workshops will be organized that each are devoted to a technically-oriented theme. The primary goal of these workshops is to learn what is happening at the other institutes within a particular technical field of expertise. The workshops are explicitly intended for a broad audience of non-specialists, i.e. technicians from different fields and scientists with a technical interest.

At each workshops presentations will be given by people from different institutes. In each presentation a particular technique or technical approach will be discussed in a very accessible manner for non-specialists. It will be explained how the technique works and what the potentials are of the technique. The program of the workshop also contains a tour of the host institute in which some of the presented techniques will be illustrated. At each workshop there will be ample time for asking questions and for informal discussion.
