DIFFER Seminar: Research overview at the FRMC division, ASIPP

Abstract:

To harness the immense power of nuclear fusion, international collaborations are encouraged. In light of the ITER project and the increasing collaborations between Eurofusion and China, we wish to enhance the bond between DIFFER and the Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ASIPP). Known for hosting the EAST tokamak, ASIPP is committed to bringing the stars down to earth. Exciting fusion research are happening at ASIPP, including the newly constructed Comprehensive Research Facility for Fusion Technology (CRAFT) program, the ongoing construction of the BEST and CFETR tokamaks, etc.

In this talk, Prof. Hai-Shan Zhou will present those progresses at ASIPP. It starts with an introduction of ASIPP and its fusion research strategy, followed by an introduction of the Fusion Reactor Materials and Components division that he oversees. Research highlights in this division are then presented, including important research facilities that they developed. Finally, possible collaborations that combine the strengths of DIFFER and ASIPP are proposed.

Biography:

Prof. Hai-Shan Zhou obtained his PhD degree from NIFS, Japan in 2014, and joined ASIPP since then. He is the head of the Fusion Reactor Materials and Components division at ASIPP since 2022. He is also a ITER Scientist Fellow, a member of IAEA IFRC Atomic and Molecular Data Subcommittee and a member of the editorial board of the journal Nuclear Materials and Energy.
