By launching 15 new research projects, EUROfusion is engaging data science experts across Europe to apply Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques to fusion energy. DIFFER researcher Sven Wiesen will be working on the project ‘Machine learning accelerated Scrape Off Layer simulations: SOLPS-NN’.

Every week a different scientist takes over the X-account of the Universities of the Netherlands to tell something about the world of science. From 2-6 September it was Matthijs van Berkel's turn. DIFFER and Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) signed a two-year Statement of Work to advance the realization of fusion energy. The collaboration project aims to develop a framework for exhaust control, including models, observers, and controllers for CFS’s SPARC fusion machine.

DIFFER and Toyota are jointly developing a unique reactor to capture COշ from the air and store it efficiently, using sunlight. An invention that contributes significantly to reducing COշ emissions. During summer 2024, Toyota presented a prototype of the CO2 capturing device at an event in Paris.
