Online seminar: Science under Siege: Institutional Distrust, Epistemological Insecurity, and Fragmentation

Abstract
In current debates about a crisis in the relationship between science and society, there are three central elements. 1) The first is the idea that science as an institution can no longer be trusted. 2)The second element is that people no longer trust scientific knowledge and see this as merely an opinion. 3) The third is that lay knowledge about science - scientific literacy - is becoming fragmented. In this seminar, I explore each of these three elements based on recent survey research. I will explore who embraces such critical views towards science, and more importantly, I will explain why that is the case.
