DIFFER Seminar: Membraneless Alkaline Water Electrolysis (Willem Haverkort)

Abstract

Green hydrogen can most affordably be produced through alkaline water electrolysis, using green electricity. In this process, a membrane avoids mixing of oxygen and hydrogen produced at electrodes immersed in an alkaline electrolyte. Such a membrane has several disadvantages, so that designs without a membrane are also investigated. A flowing electrolyte can effectively separate the hydrogen and oxygen, making the process more energy efficient.
