Abstract
Based on recent work by EASAC, the seminar will focus on the challenges of the EU Green Deal and EASAC?s advice to EU policy makers on the decarbonisation of transport, buildings, and the energy sector (including electricity storage, bioenergy, hydrogen and natural gas).

Since he retired in 2014 after 14 years as a European Commission official in Brussels, where he was head of a renewable energy Unit, Bill works part time for the European Academies Science Advisory Council (EASAC), managing projects that produce science-based advice for policy makers in the fields of climate and energy. Bill started his career as a graduate apprentice with Rolls Royce, and spent 7 years as a researcher and lecturer at University College Cardiff, 11 years in a private consulting company, and 8 years in the UK national energy agency. Bill is a Chartered Mechanical and Electrical Engineer. He has advised UK and Netherlands governments, European Commission, IEA, and World Bank, and worked on energy projects in Africa, Caribbean, and Pacific regions. He has published over 80 papers, books and conference proceedings on renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy planning.
