Abstract
Multidisciplinary oceanographic research at the Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ, NWO-i) yields an abundance of data flows. The institutional repository 'Data Archive System' (DAS) has been developed to support researchers in managing their data. In this application, schemes can be set up to logically archive data, both manually and fully automated. The data objects are stored on a secured file server, whereas descriptive metadata is archived in a database, serving the search and retrieval of data from the system.
In this seminar we will demonstrate how DAS is set up and how it is used at NIOZ. A research case provided by Karel van der Plassche (DIFFER) is used to illustrate that the system is not necessarily limited to oceanographic applications.
