Seminars

Seminars at DIFFER cover a wide range of topics and are held on Thursdays at 11.15 AM in the seminar room of the institute (unless otherwise stated). Seminars are open to everybody. If you are interested in visiting a DIFFER seminar or want to subscribe to our mailing list, please follow the instructions for external visitors.

With the rapid growth of solar and wind energy, a new challenge arises: how to store renewable electricity to warrant a continuous energy supply?

Rational design of catalytic materials can be achieved using advanced methods that model the multiscale catalyst behavior from the active site at the nanoscale to the reactor at the macroscale. Such methods are currently rather limited as they lack a proper description of the mesoscale.

Optical detection of single molecules is widely used in fields ranging from biology to materials science. The ability to detect single molecules has long relied on fluorescence approaches due to their high signal-to-background ratio. This limits the applicability of the approach to fluorescently labelled molecules with a high quantum yield.

Both nanomaterials and halide perovskites have generated a tremendous amount of hype in the solar cell research community. Some of this attention is very much deserved, but in both cases there are also serious challenges left to be addressed before commercialization can be considered.

Joined seminar with TU/e. Note the different time and location. Cathodoluminescence imaging spectroscopy (CL) is a powerful tool to characterize optical nanomaterials at deep-subwavelength spatial resolution. In CL, a 5-30 keV electron beam is raster-scanned over the surface while the emitted radiation is detected.
