In 2020, the European DEMO fusion reactor completed its pre-conceptual design stage. This reactor succeeds ITER (first demonstration of net fusion energy, construction in full swing), and is scheduled for construction around 2040. Nevertheless, several design issues must be urgently resolved. One of these lies in the design of the plasma facing heat shields, the so-called Divertor.
