DICE is a new set-up that will allow DIFFER to study material damage, more precise corrosion caused by neutrons. This is relevant for nuclear fusion, as well as fission applications in generation-4 molten salt reactors. DICE is connected to the Ion Beam Facility (IBF). The new set-up is open to guest scientists and companies.

Black hole devours a neutron star. Scientists say they have seen tantalizing, first-time evidence of a black hole eating a neutron star-first stretching the neutron star into a crescent, swallowing it, and then gulping up crumbs of the broken star in the minutes and hours that followed. Supermassive black holes at the centers of merging galaxies are expected to form binary systems whose orbital motion generates gravitational waves.

Paulo N. Martinho
The versatility of ethylenediamine-inspired Schiff-base transition metal complexes has been shown in their extensive applications in molecular sensors (e.g. electrochromic, recognition) and molecular switches (e.g. redox, magnetic).
