To make an impact on society with their work on electrolysers for hydrogen production, DIFFER collaborates with EIRES researchers and industrial manufacturer VDL Groep in a project funded by the Brabant Development Agency (BOM). The EUROfusion consortium for the realization of fusion energy has awarded fifteen EUROfusion Engineering Grants and ten EUROfusion Researcher Grants on 15 December 2021. Two grants are awarded to DIFFER researchers.

EUROfusion signed its Grant Agreement under the European Framework Programme Horizon Europe into effect. Under this new Grant Agreement, EUROfusion will direct and integrate research across Europe into a comprehensive R&D programme to realise fusion energy.

DIFFER PhD researcher Luca Vialetto obtained his doctorate cum laude on 25 November 2021. His thesis is titled Modelling of plasmas for CO2 conversion: electron kinetics, chemistry and transport.

Oud-DIFFER-groepsleider Jan Terlouw was te gast in het televisieprogramma Sterren op het doek. Özcan Akyol interviewde hem over zijn leven op landgoed Rijnhuizen, waar DIFFER voor de verhuizing naar Eindhoven zat. Het programma was op zaterdag 20 november 2021 op NPO2.
