The annual Applied Computational Science (ACOS) conference took place at DIFFER in Eindhoven. The goal of this annual conference is to bring together the Dutch research community, both academic and industrial researchers, in applied computational science.
The New Routes for the Energy Transition project has officially kicked off on October 27. For the coming ten months, TNO, Utrecht University (UU) and DIFFER are setting up new national research communities to speed up the energy transition. NWO is funding three projects aimed at spatial planning, future energy infrastructure, and the business challenge for the energy transition.
DIFFER has reached an important milestone: the linear plasma generator of Upgraded Pilot-PSI (UPP) is operational again with greatly improved features. The machine is used to test materials to be used under the harsh conditions in fusion reactors.
The first experiment with Upgraded Pilot-PSI (UPP), DIFFER’s new facility, has been performed in September by master student Parwez Rasulyaar and the Plasma Material Interactions group. The machine will be the first to couple high flux plasma with an ion beam, bringing two of DIFFER’s expertises together in one machine. It is based on the fore-runner of Magnum-PSI, Pilot-PSI.
