Are you a teacher? Would you like to learn more aboute fusion? On 1 October 2021, FuseNet is organising its 2nd European Fusion Teacher Day. After the seminal edition in October 2020, FuseNet and a group of 15+ participating countries are organising a second event for secondary school teachers along the width and breadth of Europe and across three time zones.

Using renewable electricity and carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO) can be produced as a source of sustainable fuels. Driving this process with high temperature is regularly dismissed as not very promising, because the theoretical maximum achievable energy efficiency would be 'only' 50 percent.

A new, multi-wavelength imaging (MWI) camera diagnostic fitted on tokamak MAST Upgrade, will offer scientists a picture of the impact that the machine’s Super X divertor design has on the hot, charged plasma. The tool is based on MANTIS, a diagnostic tool developed by DIFFER.

DIFFER and University of Twente (UT) have started a long-term collaboration on the fabrication and investigation of thin films for the energy transition. Applications are for example in the field of conversion and storage, like electrodes for water splitting or fuel cells.

“Magnum-PSI can create very high density plasmas and we are interested in the impact of the plasmas on the wall and the plasma-facing components,” says Jonathan van den Berg-Stolp. He is the first author of a publication which was recently accepted by Nuclear Fusion. Jonathan van den Berg is a PhD student in the Plasma Edge Physics and Diagnostics group at DIFFER.
