With the progress of industrialization, the demand for energy has become increasingly enormous, and traditional fossil fuels cause serious environmental pollution. Hydrogen (H2), as a clean energy source, is environmentally friendly. Among the various methods, using sunlight to directly split water to produce H2 is undoubtedly the most attractive.

Cooling the exhaust of a fusion reactor involves many physical reactions. A computer model helps, but how do you make a model of something so complex? Jesse Koenders, PhD candidate at DIFFER, conducted experiments on the TCV research tokamak at the Swiss Plasma Centre in Lausanne.

DIFFER’s PhD candidate Tess van Eeden has won a Best Poster Award at the Low Temperature Plasma Diagnostics conference, where researchers in the field of low-temperature plasma diagnostics come together to exchange knowledge and experiences. This year, the conference took place from April 28th to May 2nd at Liblice Castle near Prague, Czech Republic.
