Eindhoven

Eindhoven, the largest city of the province of Noord Brabant with a population of around 250,000, is the heart of the Dutch Brainport region. It combines cutting-edge innovation with a rich industrial heritage. Its modern identity was forged in the late 19th century with the founding of Philips in 1891, which transitioned the local economy from tobacco and textiles to light bulbs and electronics. This "City of Light" faced significant destruction during World War II, leading to a post-war era of ambitious reconstruction and architectural experimentation. Today it is home to a thriving tech sector including Semiconductor giant ASML, NXP and Signify, as well as the globally famous Design Academy Eindhoven, the football team PSV, and the annual Light Festival GLOW.
